Helping the Community: 3 Reasons Why Your Company Should Get Involved

The holiday season is an exciting time to be with friends and family, but it’s also a good time to think of those in need and to give back. For the past three years, JoCo has gotten involved in our own community by volunteering at the local food bank. Here are a few reasons why you and your business should consider taking time to help out:

Support a Great Cause

We are so proud to help the food bank work towards their goals. The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma works with hundreds of partner agencies that feed a total of 24 counties, providing more than 450,000 thousand meals a week to people in need. During our volunteer session alone, we sorted through over 5,000 pounds of food! In addition, they help to raise public awareness about hunger and how food banking can help to alleviate that hunger. Whether it’s a local food bank or some other cause that’s close to your heart, volunteering is a great opportunity to make your own community a better place.

Strengthen Your Team

Volunteering together helps to create a positive work culture and reminds us that there is more to life than what happens in the office. Learning to work together in a setting that requires different communication and skill sets than what you typically use day-to-day helps bring your team together so that they can be that much more productive when they’re back on the job. It’s a team building activity that benefits everyone.

Employee Engagement

Volunteering is a fun way to interact with each other outside of the workplace. The work we were doing at the food bank was simple enough that we got the chance to enjoy seasonal music and bond over the experience. As crazy as business gets around the end of the year, it’s fun to take a break and focus on those around us.

Making volunteering an integral part of your company’s culture is a way to not only support a great cause, but it’s an invaluable resource to strengthen your team and your company as a whole.
